The turbine will be installed on top of a tall tower, collects kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity that is compatible with your homes electrical system. Wind energy is maintenance free and causes virtually no environmental impact.

You will usually recoup your investment through utility savings within 5-15 years. Allot of this depends on utility rates, and wind speed ! Over the long term, a wind turbine is a good investment because a well-sited wind system increases property value, similar to any other home improvement. Many people buy wind systems in preparation for their retirement because they don't want to be subject to unpredictable increases in utility rates.

[ top of page ] Do small wind turbines cause bird mortality ?
Unfortunately, this issue has been blown way out of proportion. Although a bird may occasionally perish in the spinning blades of a small wind turbine, this is a extremely rare occurrence. Because of their relatively smaller blades and tower heights, they are considered too small and too dispersed to present a threat to birds.

They do produce sound, as the wind increases so will the turbine noise. If you are concerned we suggest watching footage online or making the drive out to see one in action. Customers say the turbines noise is no more annoying then the sound of the wind when you are out in the yard.

Using online sights like www.windatlas.ca can give you a good idea on the wind speeds in your area. When looking at any historical information be sure it is in conjunction to the height of the tower. [ top of page ] How mush space do I need for a turbine ?
Ideally, you will want the turbine as far away as possible from buildings or trees, which may block the wind and cause turbulence. As a guide, the wind turbine should be about twice the height from any buildings.

[ top of page ] How reliable are the wind turbines ? Maintenance ? How long do the wind turbines last ?
There are very few moving parts on are turbines, having no scheduled maintenance. The life expectancy of the turbines is right around 20-25 years.
